toll-house-pieDo you like fresh in-season food, a quaint cozy atmosphere, and desserts you only thought your grandmother could make? Well then you would enjoy The Market Bistro in Buckhannon, WV.

Owned by Mike and Annie Alborano, a husband and wife team, who dedicate their time to preparing unique and delicious meals using the freshest ingredients available, while also incorporating local produce from the farmer’s market when possible. They make their own fresh-baked breads daily and have a kids menu, a vegetarian menu, as well as, gluten-free menu options to choose from. The dessert menu assures that anyone with a sweet tooth will find a delectable treat.

They have a set menu and the daily specials are written on the large chalkboard near the back of the restaurant. The specials change with available seasonal ingredients throughout the year. From grilled chicken BLT’s, Italian sausage hoagies, and cheesy potato soup, to sliced pot roast with potatoes, carrots and gravy, or their butternut squash ravioli in a cinnamon and sage cream sauce, there is something for any palate. Even their salads become extraordinary with unique homemade dressings like the Maple Bacon or Cranberry Orange.

The Market Bistro was established in 2008 and was previously located in the back of The Book Store on Main Street in Buckhannon. The store became an antique showplace and the Alborano’s moved to their new location at 18 North Kanawha Street.

The bistro also features local artist’s works on their walls, which are for sale and support the local community.

blessingMike wears many hats, and is a skilled chef who uses his talents to create tasty dishes while not being afraid to try something new. Annie cooks at the bistro and shares the talent of wearing many hats while also holding the position of Cafeteria Manager for Union School in Upshur County. She is known by kids across the county as “Miss Annie.” She truly loves what she does, and how they both have been able to share their passion for food with the local youth. Annie expressed their enthusiasm for what they do, “I love to cook and we both love food. It is what we enjoy doing.” A labor of love for them both!
